Mark Samuel Rice

Mark Samuel Rice, 61, of Edgewood, TX, passed away on March 20, 2022, in Tyler surrounded by his family. 

Mark Samuel Rice was born on October 18, 1960, in Dallas, TX, to parents Abrim Hasting Rice, Jr and Lois Anita Gammons Rice. He was raised in Arlington where he attended Sam Houston High School. In 1980, Mark was diagnosed with Leukemia and was one of the first to receive a successful bone marrow transplant at MD Anderson in Houston. Mark moved to Edgewood in 1987, and was employed by Big Tex Trailer and had several other welding jobs in the area. He was of the nondenominational faith. Mark enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening and building motors for street rods. He loved collecting antiques and was a talented welder, building and repairing almost anything. Mark was loved by many and had a heart of gold. He especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved nieces and nephew, Amberly, Ashley and Matthew and many friends. Mark’s mother recently followed him in death on January 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father Abrim H Rice, Jr.

Mark is survived by his sister, Robin Rice Telesko and husband Dan of Ft. Worth, TX; brother, Abrim “Butch” H. Rice, III of Edgewood, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends and family.

Mark will be laid to rest at Small Cemetery alongside his mother after her services at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
