Lois Gammons Rice Obituary

Lois Anita Rice, 86, of Edgewood, TX, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Family will be available following the services to visit.

Lois was born October 1, 1937, in Edgewood, TX, to parents Jefferson Jackson Gammons and Lila Jenkins Gammons. Lois led a full and adventurous life, marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and community. On December 21, 1957, she married Abrim Hasting Rice, Jr., and together they embarked on a journey with the United States Air Force, traveling the globe and experiencing the rich tapestry of different cultures in Spain, Africa, and Germany. Following their travels, Lois and Abrim settled in Arlington, TX, to raise their family. Later they moved to Edgewood in 1987, where they put down roots and made their home.

In her professional life, Lois made significant contributions as a bank teller for 18 years, providing invaluable assistance and warm hospitality to countless patrons. Later, she extended her service to the community by working at Walmart in Canton, Ft. Worth and Mineola. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her faith, as she was an active member of the Church of Christ throughout her life.

In her later years, Lois continued to embrace new experiences and opportunities, spending time working in a Canton antique shop and cherishing the friendships she cultivated along the way.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson and Lila Gammons, and her beloved husband, Abrim H. Rice II; son, Mark Samuel Rice; brothers, B.R. Gammons and Hubert Gammons; sisters, Beatrice White and Earline Harvey.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Rice Telesko and husband Dan of Ft. Worth, TX; son, Abrim “Butch” H. Rice, III of Edgewood, TX; granddaughters, Ashley Bielss and husband Doug; Amberly Dycus and husband Derrick; grandsons, Matthew Telesko and fiancé Christina Chamberlain and Gerade Telesko and wife Heather; great grandchildren, Taylor, Madisyn, Talon, Donnie, Reagan, Ty and Brody; sisters, Janice Fisher of Edgewood, TX and Edith Wade of Chapel Hill, TX; as well as many friends.
